ABOUT BYRON

Byron McCray is an author and illustrator who proudly represents his beloved
hometown of Brooklyn, New York. Byron’s passion for color, music of all genres,
and telling the stories of black culture, shines through mixed media portraiture
and illustrations he has created for albums, greeting cards, and theatrical
posters. His mixed media paintings have been exhibited at Sotheby’s, Mist
Harlem, Art Students League of New York, Leroy Neiman Center for the Arts, St.
Joseph’s College, and The Gallery at Harlem School of the Arts.

With a client list that includes fellow Brooklyn natives, Spike Lee and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, he continues to share his intersection of art and music with the world. In 2019, Byron
wrote and illustrated his first children’s book, 90’s R&B – A to Z. In 2023, he was nominated for a LAMDBA Literary Award for his illustration of A Song for the Unsung: Bayard Rustin, the Man Behind the 1963 March on Washington written by Carole Boston Weatherford and Rob Sanders.
